What's this about?

Lately, it seems like many of the movies/shows are just a rehash or reboot of things that have already been done. And so I started to dive into the past. It's been fun, but I find myself losing track of which ones I’ve seen and whether or not I enjoyed them. Sometimes the titles themselves just don't tell me enough to remember.

I wouldn’t have voluntarily watched a lot of these movies when I was younger. It’s strange how interests change. That goes for what I read, too. I have another blog that explores books. I’m mostly reading older fiction and memoirs, and some of the books have led me to movies/shows and vice versa. In those cases, I may post the book review over here as well.

There will be spoilers, which is different than my book reviews. That’s mostly because I want to have enough information to help me remember what I’ve seen. I’m getting older. The brain doesn’t cooperate like it used to. What can I say? The gray hairs are catching up with me!

Erased - 2016

I was recommended this show by my younger daughter. She knows I love a good anime, and she had more than a few to recommend.

The protagonist of our story has a rare ability to go back in time to stop a tragedy. In his case, Satoru relives the moment before disaster and looks for what's wrong. It's a lot of pressure, and it's mind-boggling how he figures anything out before it happens. I'd miss all the signs for sure.

One day, his mother comes to visit, and that's when things go south. Eventually, he has a major "revival" that sends him back to his childhood. When he was young, three children were abducted and killed. Satoru always felt guilty, and now he has the chance to remedy the mistakes he knows he'll make.

Ok, so I'm not great at explaining things, but that's because I'm trying not to give too much away. I had to binge the last three episodes, because I wanted to know what happened. From the small amount of research I did, it seems the end of the anime deviated from the manga quite a bit. Since I haven't read it (yet), that didn't affect my enjoyment.

And I did enjoy this one. It reminded me of Death Note and Monster, because I felt a sense of suspense of how things would end up. Also, the resolution of story during/after the credits was like Death Note. I will admit the show isn't perfect. I liked it a lot, though, and it made me want to read the manga. It was 12 episodes in which I was never bored, and I'd happily watch it again. Good Show!
